Los Angeles-based, self-taught multimedia artist Tony DeVoney, originally from New Orleans, debuts his latest painting collection, “Burgeon”, in Los Angeles. An extension of his acclaimed “Portals” series, this new body of work cements DeVoney’s hallmark of vibrant colors and bespoke lighting to create an immersive emotional experience. Consisting of three acrylic pieces titled “Mandala”, “Morph”, and “Disposition”, “Burgeon” represents a period of personal and artistic flourishing for DeVoney. His intricate, freehand techniques combined with custom-built lighting elements allow the artworks to dynamically shapeshift, providing viewers with a transformative visual journey.
DeVoney’s artistic journey, rooted in the vibrant cultural landscape of New Orleans and nurtured by his artist grandmother, has seen him evolve into a visionary multimedia artist. Inspired by the likes of Gary Lang and Jen Stark, his work encapsulates the energy and chaos of everyday life, transforming them into vibrant visual narratives. Being part of the LGBTQ+ community, the release of “Burgeon” feels perfectly aligned with Pride Month, celebrating DeVoney’s personal and artistic growth, shown through vibrant colors that also celebrate diversity.
