The Sculpture Man

The sculpture man is a figure made to be looked at. His skin is marble, plaster, or bronze; his form finite, studied, measured, and polished to please the external eye. He has been sculpted by expectations, by judgments, by the gestures others demand from him. Above all, he is a pose. He stands in the gallery of the world, where everyone walks by, observing him, analyzing him, appraise sing him. His apparent mission: to remain steady, flawless, and eternal. But within that rigid and gleaming form, there is life. Not just any life, but a latent one—almost secret. A fragility unseen, yet threatening to break him if the weight of the perfect gesture lasts too long.
