A fresh batch of graduates from the esteemed Royal Danish Academy presented their collections at Copenhagen Spring Summer 2022 Fashion Week. ‘The Last Pieces’ showcases a lineup of 17 students who displayed everything that they learned at the academy, which was broadcasted on the academy’s YouTube channel. Through unique designs, these graduates reign in a fresh perspective to the world of fashion 一 each look acting as a product of strict and meticulous education.
An ensemble of contemporary looks paraded down the runway and although each look celebrates contrasting aspects of the students' identities, a common thread connecting the 17 proposals is present 一 injecting themes of expression by way of diverse realities and channeling different forms of expression that flow throughout. A shared mindset amongst the 17 participants injects themes of sexuality and artistic prowess, it’s both a celebration and a marriage between collective ways of thinking. The result is a series of captivating proposals that lures in the attention of the world, it’s a glimpse into the future of international fashion.
The designers mirror an ultramodern vision of a not-so-distant future where clothes embody themes of expression and individuality 一 one where even the most ordinary person can resonate with the fabrics laid bare on our bodies. With the fashion industry being one of the companies that produce the most waste, Implementing sustainability is at the forefront of these up-and-coming designers. The academy made sure that each student left with an environmental mindset and they did exactly that 一 through the incorporation of techniques such as waste reduction, using deadstock materials like knitting and felting, upcycling, and digital model development.
The collection features a vibrant selection of silky dresses, plaid and floral prints, tulle dresses, elongated coats with slits, asymmetric quilted jackets, knitted sweaters, and oversized trousers. The collection also includes dysmorphic designs like jackets with sharp shoulders, padded bags, and cropped life-vest harness tops.
