The Hidden Dimension by Container Love
MAY 3, 2023 → WORDS ADRIÁN GOMIS EXPÓSITO
Container Love is an award-winning global Berlin-based platform that promotes identities and queer culture through an intersectional approach to celebrate the spectrum of diversity. Ben Galster, Director, and Christian Ruess, Executive Producer, present the latest queer film alongside queer visual artist and photographer Leo Maki: The Hidden Dimension.
The short film The Hidden Dimension is about real-life diversity uncovering the complexity and the beauty of Warsaw-based queer visual artist and photographer Leo Maki. His unique approach to intimacy, desire, bodies, erotism, physicality, and dreams in his body of work brings a unique perspective into his images with captivating colors that create perfect atmospheres and mesmerizing moments. The Hidden Dimension explores the creative process behind his work where desire, sexuality, and reality are mixed together and result in stunning pieces of art.
Bearing in mind the situation of LGBTQIA+ rights in Poland, Leo Maki’s home country and one of the countries in the EU that still does not allow same-sex civil unions and that has set in recent years ‘LGBT free-zone areas’ across the country, the film captures the mind, the inspiration, the struggles, and the self-created sense of safety of the provocative and captivating artist. The photographer opens up to share parts of his daily life and personal history and how that translates into his photography style where sex, nudity, and the stereotypical masculinity roles are challenged in front of his lenses.
The Hidden Dimension offers a deeper look into the intimacy, beauty, and complexity of queer spaces in adverse contexts, narrating the journey of self-expression in a mix of vulnerability and empowerment acting as a reminder that queer identities matter, exist, and must be considered when building up democratic and safe societies for everyone.
The full film will be available digitally by the end of May.
