Retrofuturismo
Retrofuturismo is a photographic series that speculates on a future where evolution is not driven by technology, but by scarcity. In this dystopian vision of what’s to come, natural resources have become relics, and humanity survives not through progress but through extreme adaptation. The images portray the daily life of a resident in this possible world: a mutated body emerging from the viscous, the organic, and the recycled.
In this universe, clothing has lost its ornamental value. It becomes a second skin—functional and protective—engaging with the precariousness of its environment. Textures resemble membranes, biological remnants, and repurposed waste. Each garment is an extension of the body, a fusion between living matter and a survival artifact.
The series inhabits the grotesque without fear, proposing a beauty born from the residual. Food is recycled. The habitat is a post-industrial womb. Existence is almost larval. The protagonist is not entirely human: her gestures, her viscous appearance, and her symbiotic connection to the environment suggest a new species, born from collapse but capable of enduring.
Does the future not look as incredible as we once imagined? Is everything destined to return to its starting point? (A nod to the cyclical nature of fashion.) Could this actually be a good thing—an opportunity to reset and redirect our behaviors and choices?
