The Aratana, which was named after the Japanese word “new” is a fresh, seminal sneaker designed by MCQ, bridging the gap between functional modularity, ease of wear, all while fusing the identity of the sneaker with British youth culture with the core values of the house. A creative search for both lightness and strength trails behind the creation of this sneaker 一 a nod to a previous design that explored the influence of air on movement through technical references to parachuting and sailing, as well as meditation practices.
“A good design, regardless of the product, enriches life. It simplifies life. It can make you feel good.” explain Myles O’Meally, founder of product creation company Areté and co-designer of the Aratana sneaker.
The sneaker was designed in collaboration with Myles O’Meally and Areté senior Silmane Cherif Khaldi. The Aratana sneaker grants the wearer weightless volume through a multilayered construction in recycled leather and mesh underlays, to top it off, the sneaker is paired with a double-cord lacing system.
The Aratana features an ultramodern sole that is constructed in a way that enables the user to incorporate add-ons, which will be launched in cycle V. The introduction of these accessories will transform the design and extend its lifespan. Sustainability is injected into the midsole, which incorporates 1-10% bloom™ material, which helps to transform harmful algae blooms into an alternative for plastic. The masterminds behind this creation are ever the more determined to reverse the effects of water pollution.
The Aratana sneaker is stocked globally at retailers including GOAT, Level Shoes, Luisa Via Roma, Julian Fashion, Antonioli, LNCC, Nubian, and SSENSE.
