Loewe Fall Winter 2021

WORDS JESÚS S FERRERA
THE LOEWE SHOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED. That’s the headline of the newspaper created for the Fall Winter 2021 collection, but it is also the narrative in the backdrop of the show. One of the messages behind it is to “encourage people to read”, in JW Anderson’s own words. It simply gives a literary approach to the collection. Indeed, the paper includes an exclusive preview of the latest novel by Danielle Steel, The Affair.
Draping has been central to this collection, but we’ve also seen suede jackets with boyish shoulders and leather coats worn as dresses, featuring a range of acrylic shades. Prints and dresses were made in collaboration with some of the major embroidery houses around the world. In this collection, the idea of dressing becomes bold and daring.
Regarding tailoring, JW Anderson states that “over the past three or four collections, tailoring has been a big mission for me”. He successfully carried out this mission by presenting cotton structures, which looked at 20s horse riding jackets.
As for the footwear, Anderson wanted to contradict the looks: men’s shoes with height featuring a leather sock detail and a remarkable platform. Also 17th and 18th century inspired buckled shoes were presented.
According to the British creative, “a bag and a shoe can twist the look.” Therefore, now is the time for bags. The iconic Amazona makes a comeback, but with the purpose of make it even better. What a statement. Another novelty is a bracelet bag, which is perfect to go back to going out at night, if that even happens.
Ultimately, we would like to take back one of JW Anderson’s thoughts today. According to him, this is a very special moment to work with clothes: “you can work with that fantasy idea that can become a reality.” Oh yes, we can’t wait for this reality you’ve predicted to happen.
