Les Benjamins Fall Winter 2021 “Forgotten Pacenotes” collection is out now!
SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 → WORDS RONALD KAHIHIKOLO
Les Benjamins Fall/Winter 2021 men’s and women’s collection fuses racing culture with the luxury streetwear brands identity — returning to their cultural roots to meld together a special collection. This new collection carries on their precise craftsmanship, bringing back the levels of comfort and deeply rooted cultural influences that they always bring to the table.
Creative Director, Bunyamin Aydin, delves into Turkish rally culture from the 70s and 80s, paying tribute all while highlighting Turkey’s rally icons Renç Koçibey, Serdar Bostanci, and Ali Sipahi. The women’s collection embodies Turkey’s rally heritage and pulls inspiration from French pilot Michèle Mouton’s emblematic style. The dynamism of motorsport-inspired clothing is unified with athleisure to generate a new sense of proportion and function.
The collection is defined in two chapters — “rally style” and “crash & repair” — the collection’s garments are a chronicle of a rally, with the first half placing us into mental preparation while the other half places us behind the wheel for the actual race. Juxtaposition, style and performance remain as the core pillars of this collection, translated into a rich range of tailored silhouettes, experimental textures, and bold patterns in earthy hues with eye-popping dashes of magenta.
Vintage racing uniforms are reinterpreted with a sharp street culture twist while the track clothes act as a reflection of an actual rally through boldness and stark contrasts. The raw and utilitarian aesthetics captures the essence of a real race, placing the wearer on the sidelines of a track.
Aydin experimented with natural fabric treatments that come with an artisanal feel. The menswear and womenswear staples from this collection include distressed carpet jacquard, oil spill prints on polar fleece, natural shimmery cupro, printed denim, light woven knitwear, and vegetal leather.
The collection goes live today, September 23, at lesbenjamins.com.
