Born and raised in Maida Vale, West London, the singer Kate Stewart presents her new single London Town, a tune to close the year that reminds us that she’s a London girl, influenced by the love for her roots and her national pride.
“I grew up in West London, and I’m very passionate about where I come from”, explains Kate Stewart. “Since I was a little girl I’ve been going to Notting Hill Carnival, it’s very close to my heart and I felt very inspired by that when I was writing this song. It has a lot of reggae influence in the production which I love, and when I listen to it I think of Carnival.”
Starting off with a mix of melodic and rhythmic sounds, London Town becomes an irresistible anthem as soon as we play it thanks in part to the Reggae-inspired flow that puts us in the right mood. Awarded artists like Callum Connor, Grammy-nominated in 2021 with the R&B band the Free Nationals; Grammy-nominated, and ASCAP Vanguard Award winner MNEK, and Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ryan Ashley joined Stewart in the creative process of this song.
“London Town came about when my good friend Callum Connor sent me beats he was working on for Rihanna. I was in the studio in London with Ryan Ashley and MNEK, and we started writing to one of them. We ended up writing a song, with Rihanna in mind, and we called it Gully Town. She never ended up using it, and because I loved it so much, I kept it for myself and re-wrote the lyrics to make it relevant to me”, says Kate Stewart about the creative process of the song.
The single follows an incredible year for Kate, who also teased her upcoming EP, “You Had To Be There”, set to release next year as a storybook of seasons of love, self-love, and empowerment, collaborated and put together by Kate and a circle of music titans.
