Javier Guijarro “Debut(I)”: Redefining Spanish fashion for a new generation
SEPTEMBER 28, 2023 → WORDS ADRIÁN GOMIS EXPÓSITO
At the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, 23-year-old designer Javier Guijarro made a remarkable debut with his first-ever collection, “Debut(I)”, showcased on the Allianz EGO platform for young fashion talents. His brand, recently launched, is dedicated to reimagining traditional men’s clothing to resonate with younger generations.
Guijarro’s graduate collection had already garnered significant attention from the media and international celebrities like Karol G, Bad Gyal, and Rauw Alejandro, establishing him as “the new promise of cutting-edge Spanish fashion”. Now, he unveils his Spring/Summer 2024 collection, which draws inspiration from timeless classic colours such as blues, burgundies, greens, greys, and browns, redefining the classic rural man’s style.
This innovative collection employs classic fabrics, including corduroy, denim, leather, shirting, wool, and various knit patterns. It focuses on sculpting silhouettes and infusing a youthful, urban attitude, elements essential for embodying the distinctive Javier Guijarro aesthetic. Notably, stripes evolve into checkered patterns, caps transform into oversized berets, radiating a more assertive and contemporary vibe, while suede and nappa accessories add a raw edge.
In a tribute to the female artists in the urban music genre who have propelled Guijarro’s career, the show featured two female looks as both the opening and closing statements. Guijarro’s collaboration with Bad Gyal and Karol G further emphasized his brand’s growing influence.
