Under the sun of Madrid on a summer morning one can understand why Victor Perez is an internet star, what is currently known as an online it boy. His presence is magnetic and his physique imposing, he has absolute control of the camera and is able to attract all eyes. His social media enjoys millions of followers who have witnessed Victor’s meteoric rise as a powerful influencer. But he doesn’t want to be just that, he doesn’t want to live off viral moments, he wants to do something else: work on his true passion. Under the nickname VYPERR, Victor has recently started a new phase in his career as a singer of catchy, danceable and fantasy hit songs that invite the listener to live in a world of sensuality, heat and exotic paradises. And, as expected, it has been a success and already accumulates millions of plays on streaming platforms. Let’s face it, it’s a VYPERR world and we are living in it.

Victor, what a joy to be able to interview you again. I imagine that this summer is very special for you since your audience is dancing to the rhythm of your new songs, how are you enjoying it?

This summer I’m enjoying it a lot. We don’t stop. There is a lot of expectation around the project at the moment and we are making the most of it. I just got back from a festival in Italy and luckily we have all these summer months full of work.

So far, your songs could be framed within urban music, with some influence from reggaeton and a little bit of trap, but that’s just my opinion as someone who listens to your songs! That’s why I would like to know in your own words what genres you would say you are exploring with this new musical stage you have inaugurated.

I’m playing reggaeton, without a doubt, we have the Latin world in our blood and that’s what I listen to the most. In my latest songs you will be listening to a more electronic version, mixing pop...

How have you felt starting a new professional phase? Are you good with changes?

I have to admit that I’m very much in my comfort zone. But with this project I had to make a complete change. I have changed many habits and I have made an effort to get out of that “safety” zone that usually makes us feel comfortable without seeing what lies beyond.

Who do you rely on when making decisions? Have you received any advice that you have not forgotten and that has been useful to you?

No doubt about my manager, Jordi. We are a very good team. We make all the decisions together and we are always assessing everything to the millimeter. I also like to listen to the opinions of my family and friends. Probably the best advice I’ve been given is to stay focused on my path no matter what others think.

I like the feeling that your songs are like an escape for everyone who listens to them, as if you want to immerse us in a beachy and exotic fantasy. For you, making music is also a way to escape? What songs help you fly away from the day to day?

Yes, music always transports us to different moments of our life, different sensations... And I hope that with my songs the same thing happens to people. Akon’s songs, for example, always inspire me and remind me of when I was younger and thinking about the future.

I would like to know what corner of the world you would escape to in order to spend the perfect summer. And could you choose what has been your best summer so far? In my case... I think this one is really promising, despite this infernal heat in Madrid.

We had to leave Madrid in a hurry. I have asked that in August, if possible, we don’t set foot in it. With July I have had enough. It is very hot in Madrid. I will return in September. The truth is that this summer I will not stop working, so I will have no vacation. I hope that at the end of the year they will let me have a little getaway. One of my favorite places I have traveled to is the Maldives, without a doubt.

I’m curious about your connection to the night of San Juan, which you sing about in the song “Supersonic”. Tell me a little more about the meaning of that song.

The night of San Juan in Catalonia we live it intensely. It’s like the kick-off of summer and being so close to the beach, we always go there and celebrate it all together.

“Crushhhhh” is the most recent track you’ve released and it has a taste of Italy. Are you interested in the music coming out of this wonderful country? Tell me about the artists that catch your attention the most.

I’m a big fan of Italy and its music. I’m listening a lot to Tony Effe, ANNA, Mida... I’m working on my first Italian track so... stay tuned.

For this track you decided to work with Stego and Mechi Pieretti, how did you meet them?

With Mechi I had a session for Zoom last year, where we started writing for one of my songs and last year, finally, I met her in person at the Latin GRAMMYs in Seville. I met Stego in Madrid, in the studio. And since I started working with them I feel incredibly comfortable in the studio.

I imagine you have been to Italy, what areas do you like the most? Do you have any special memories in that country?

I just came back from Rome, and I’m in love with it. I was in Milan a month ago and I also had a great time. Italians always treat me with great affection. In June I sang at a festival in Giulianova, and people went crazy singing my song “Supersonic”. It’s a moment that touched me very much. “Supersonic” went viral in Italy as soon as it came out, and people knew the lyrics perfectly. It was a very emotional moment.

It’s impossible not to ask you, have you had any crushes in your life?

Many, (laughs). I wouldn’t say I’m a crush person, but crushes come up all the time.
