HWDPhilia
In HWDPhilia (which can be roughly translated to ACAB-philia) Kalina Dorożyńska explores the vulnerability and femininity hidden behind the hooligan culture. The Warsaw-based designer combines streetwear-inspired forms with symbols of femininity, nostalgia and patriotism. Dorożyńska’s main inspiration is the fact that many of the young men growing up in the housing projects are raised in a fatherless household. This makes them aspire to an absurd benchmark of masculinity, all the while living in a home filled with femininity. Combining the gentleness of the mother with the violence of their working class reality, Dorożyńska emphasises the contrasts and the absurdities that result. In some pieces, she pulls and twists the fabric so as to freeze the moment when the men take part in fights.
