Founded in 2021 at a rave in a warehouse, TORO is one of Barcelona’s progressive and ambitious parts of the city’s nocturnal topography, working toward preserving the past values that rave culture was originally founded on while forward-thinking in terms of materializing them in present.
Comprised of Engalanan, softchaos and Wicboyx, the trio works through the transience of artistic practices to elevate processes of cultural defiance, in real pursuit of opportunities for disobedience.
The starting point of TORO artistically is electronic music sound culture, but they are inspired by the challenge of connecting different modes of making and creating ephemeral arenas that are multi-genre, multidisciplinary and purposefully discursive.
By curating interesting booking profiles, blending art practices, and breaking the traditional rules of programming, they focus on generating connections to their community locally and internationally. They’re committed strengthening solidarity networks, creating links with queer collectives, destroying dancefloors by celebrating difference, and giving clearance for expression however that manifests. They do this to clear space for communities that do not have access, demand room for new sounds, and to trigger willingness to embrace new mistakes.
