Inspired by the city, Shanghai, China, “Glass Echo” is a collection rooted in nostalgia. Drawing from elements of architecture, Shanghainese furniture, windows, tablecloths, and vintage photographs, the collection utilize glass beads, wool felt, 3D printing, and hand-painted wood grain as core materials. Embracing traditional craftsmanship, “Glass Echo” incorporates techniques such as hand-beading and needle felting to convey the aged yet enduring texture of memories.
From the outside to the inside, from the mottled facade of the old mansion, to the flowery windows covered by the shadows of trees, to the old door covered by beaded curtains, to the glass and wooden table with old photographs, this is a process of coming home from the outside to the inside of the door. The collection “Glass Echo” delves into the transient nature of recollection, akin to transparent glass—sometimes clear, sometimes blurred. The collection seeks to capture this ephemeral essence through the softness of glass beads, symbolizing the intangible yet palpable quality of memory. Each piece is a testament to the intricate blend of past and present, preserving fragments of personal history within its delicate craftsmanship.
To convey the blurred contours of memory, shadows emerge as a central motif. Just as memories blur over time, retaining only a vague outline, shadows play a pivotal role in the narrative, offering glimpses of form while obscuring detail. By deliberately casting shadows over vintage furniture and infusing the shoot with quintessential Shanghai elements, such as bead chains mimicking alleyway wires and weathered backdrops emulating aged walls, the photos transport viewers into the realm of memory, where life breathes through every detail.
