Valencia’s heart flaunts of an architecture without comparison. That world which has been building its streets, generation after generation, has nothing to envy the great cities. When you go through it, the stories of the lovers’ who where by its corners and the ones who couldn’t come back to life. A land of passions that emerge with the heartbeat of its artists. At the Centre Cultural La Nau brought light to Eduardo Jairycovich with his first editorials as a model, and now he comes back to its patios being a Creative Director, owning his image. He presents there his first book which honors queer life: RITO (Rite). Like an offering, the poems and photographies that compose its hundred pages are a chant to dissidence, overcoming and self- knowledge. And like every RITE has its procedures, its reasons to be and a community that is devoted to it.
In this promotional edition at La Nau you glimpse all the Jairycovian aesthetics. Elevated doses of elegance and opulence. A sweet balance between masculinity and femininity. The rooting to tradition and folklore, facing towards progress. An ornamental composition but clean, which integrates a carefree plasticity with the sobriety of the statement. And, of course, a versatile Eduardo: capable to give life to a neutral patio with his different facets. A multiplicity of visages that represents a whole collective forced to metamorphose in order to survive.
RITO a potential explosion to the heart — “Esclat al cor”—, but also truthful impact to the eyes. A challenge, if you will. Its pages reveal the reflection of who you are. Or who do you wish to be. RITO is a mirror for the soul, which is in need of references. For that society which walks in circles by its own personal cloisters, in search of authenticity and a space for the development of the full identity. Rito is an interior path to be traveled en masse.
A heel. A corset. A hairy cleavage. The sacred symbol of this initiation rite. A mass of inclusion and tolerance. A celebration to resistance and the character, where the transgression happens spontaneously. In RITO, like in life itself, gender expression is anchored to the heart. And in Valencia can’t be stopped what the “cor” (heart) wants. At the end, regardless of who likes it, it always ends up “esclatant” (exploding).
