Can you tell us more about your background and how it influenced your decision to create ACE NAYMAN as a brand that blends youth culture, sophistication, and comfort? Why did you decide to focus on these specific themes?
I’m from Istanbul, but I spent a significant part of my childhood in Russia, and then I lived in London for about 8 years. I had a very happy and colorful upbringing during which I always dreamt of being a fashion designer. The different cultures I lived in fed me creatively. While youth and party culture have always been my main sources of inspiration, I want my brand to cater to a larger audience. Comfort is the pillar of Ace Nayman; I work hard to make people feel both stylish and cozy in the clothes I design. I want our pieces to be their favorite items in their closets.
ACE NAYMAN is described as a brand that combines street style with high-quality product standards. How do you manage to strike a balance between these seemingly contrasting elements in your designs?
Producing garments of a certain quality is my priority when it comes to the manufacturing process. First and foremost, Ace Nayman is an expression of me and my personality, so I want it to reflect me both in design and execution. As a young brand, your creativity and ideas might be what set you apart, but how you execute these ideas is what will make customers buy your garments. This is why I care so much about every little detail while creating my collections.
What inspired the bold and colorful designs that are a hallmark of ACE NAYMAN, and how do they reflect the brand’s identity and the women it’s designed for?
Contemporary art has always been the biggest source of inspiration for the Ace Nayman brand. I love creating prints by referencing art and by putting artists whose work I admire in imaginary conversations with one another. I’m a firm believer in “go big or go home”. This is why I don’t shy away from bold patterns and the use of color. We live in the era of authenticity. I want the Ace Nayman client to feel bold and stylish while not feeling like they have to compromise on comfort or quality.
Could you elaborate on the concept of “daytime party wear” and how it caters to modern women who are always on the go? What makes your designs suitable for such a lifestyle?
The colors and the prints definitely cater to the brand's slogan. As I previously mentioned, youth culture, party scene, and art inspire me a lot. I think these things have always been connected. Artists create together, they party together, and the energy of their surroundings feeds their creations. I try to bring London and Berlin’s rave culture into my collections from time to time. My designs are joyful and energetic. I imagine these pieces being worn throughout the day, from visiting a museum exhibit to going to a rave later in the day. Ace Nayman’s materials are comfortable and chic, especially the new knitwear pieces we have launched. They are meant to accompany you in all of your daily activities, whether it be a cultural outing, hanging out with friends, or partying until the sun rises.
As both the designer and creative director of ACE NAYMAN, how do you approach the creative process? What are some of the key principles or values that guide your work?
I love my job so much, and I work hard to obtain my dreams and my vision. I’m always in competition with myself. I’m always observing, reading, traveling, and trying to connect with people. My key principle is to do all of this with a high level of focus. I treat every activity as if it is the most important thing in my life at the moment. This is what sets me apart.
You recently presented your brand’s Fall/Winter collection. Can you share some insights into the process and craftsmanship that go into creating this collection, what it talks about, and how it is similar or different from past collections?
I try to maintain continuity throughout my collections and keep a narrative going. I do this by creating a thread that connects each collection to the one before through the use of color and the creation of prints that carry similar codes. In this Fall/Winter collection, I was inspired by Herve Huitric’s digital art from the 80s and combined it with Peter Halley’s abstract paintings. We created our own quilt by using our monogram pattern. I have collaborated with a graffiti artist who did our print designs on our t-shirts and sweatshirts. Knitwear pieces that could be worn unisex also carry the main print but feature a slightly more distorted version. This season we have added some sparkle to the collection with the use of Swarovski crystals. This collection is an ode to the 21st century’s digital realm with a sprinkle of sparkle and fun.
What’s next for ACE NAYMAN? How do you expect it to evolve, in terms of popularity but also regarding its style and approach to your designs and processes?
I have recently started designing menswear and pieces that can be worn unisex, and I’m excited about that. We have been working on expanding the brand in Europe and the Middle East. I work hard to become a globally known brand to achieve my dreams.
