Skin On Skin

Everything we sense, we feel through our skin. This thin layer between air and flesh; the strange texture, stretching and wrinkling, holding our bodies in place. So then, what is a leaf if not the skin of a tree, breathing the sun. And might sand be just the skin of a mountain, fragmented and shaped through pressure and time.

In our experimental editorial Skin On Skin, we explore the intersection of human and non-human materiality. Instead of human designers, we work with collected biomaterial like leafs, pods, sand, and hair; juxtaposing it with contemporary bio-material made of a composite and edible algae mixture. We look at skin as an inter-face – to quite literally make sense of the world, and our material engagement with it.
