Inspired by the Seven Deadly Sins and taking Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy and El Bosco's surreal creative imaginary as a starting point, Francesca Fernández Rossi presents this exciting fashion editorial exclusively for SICKY. We speak with her to find out all the details of the project.
Francesca, before we get into your work, could you introduce yourself briefly?
My origins are from Florence, but I live in Madrid since I was a kid. Right now, I just finished my studies at the IED university of Madrid in fashion design, stylist and communication. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be creative in every aspect of my life, and I am so passionate about developing ideas and creating content. I found my creativity in history, paintings, sculptures, movies and literature. In a couple of months, I’m moving to London to develop my creativity and pursue my dream, which is becoming a creative director.
You have been responsible for the production and direction of S7VEN SINS, a project in collaboration with the photographer J P Bonino in which a great team of makeup artists, models and brands has collaborated. What do you want to convey through this project?
This project was my first solo work, and I wanted to do something special, big and different. It has been a long journey with wonderful people, my main goal was to broadcast how my mind goes and showing how capable I am to carry such a big production like S7VEN SINS was. I also wanted to prove that imagination has no limits. S7VEN SINS was a big production with wonderful professionals who worked very hard those three days, which I am very grateful for.
S7VEN SINS comprises seven fashion editorials. From Envy to Pride, you get inspired by each of the Seven Deadly Sins through fashion. What aspects have you considered when representing each of them?
When I first came with this idea of the Seven Sins, I knew it was a topic already very used, but I like challenges. I knew it would be different, so I studied in depth the history of the Seven Sins, how many artists represent them, how it works in religion and more importantly, how people saw the seven sins. My main sources of inspiration were Dante Alighieri’s Divine Comedy and El Bosco. The landscapes that we see in the editorials are inspired by El Bosco's round table.
Where and when did you carry out the project?
This project took place in a studio named RUGE and it was amazing. It was three days of hard work, the 23, 24 and 25 of May since 9:00 am.
The production took place over three days. What would you highlight from the experience?
I can name you a thousand highlights. It was an amazing experience, seeing how this really works and how many people got involved in this was truly amazing. For me, in this kind of project, one of the most important things was the great atmosphere of work, being with people who helped each other who made a great team, everybody put their skills together to make their best.
Are there any of the seven fashion editorials that have been especially difficult to materialize?
Probably Envy was the most difficult to materialize. I didn’t want to make something obvious and already used also Envy is more of expression more than body language, so it was a little hard. But we made it!
