Dries Van Noten Fall Winter 2021
MARCH 3, 2021
WORDS JESÚS S FERRERA
Dries Van Noten has been synonymous with success since establishing his own brand in 1986. Therefore, it sounds paradoxical to hear the word “debut” when reading about him.
But it was actually for his SS21 presentation that he said it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment: in a 34-year career, he had never directed photographers or a film, since they had never done an advertising campaign. But yes, things change -even if it is just for a couple of seasons, hopefully- and with that come “debuts.” Honestly, it was nothing but brilliant.
This time, for Womenswear Ready-to-Wear FW21, he did it again. Today, the Belgium brand has presented a short film directed by Casper Sejersen which is inspired by dance.
The set that housed the fashion film was the Red Room at De Singel Theatre, which added even more theatricality to the production. And just like that, dancers became models and vice versa. Stiff poses were interspersed with intense, provocative and sensual movements.
As for the clothes, the collection emphasised exuberance, movement and some of the brand’s iconic pieces, such as the white shirt. Tailoring, simple free-flowing dresses, sport clothing, drapes and quilted velvet have also been seen. Colours have been protagonists, and also the patterns -florals and even sequins-. The essence of Dries was there, and this is unmistakable and unwavering.
