MSGM Fall Winter 2021
MARCH 1, 2021
WORDS JESÚS S FERRERA
MSGM Fall Winter 2021 collection has been “an ode to Milan’s underground nightlife”. The collection was presented this morning in a video format called Manifesto, in which several creative were involved: Flash Art publisher Gea Politi, visual artist Alessandro Calabrese, movie director Francesco Coppola, and Club Domani’s DJ Sergio Tavelli and Andrea Ratti. It was a cinematic video digitally manipulated so that the movement of the models goes backwards.
We all know that those are unmistakably hard times for clubbers, who want to party no-matter-what -I assume that’s the reason for the illegal rave held this weekend in the Navigli area of Milan-. With the aim of reflecting this desire, Massimo Giorgetti (an avowed clubber) has decided to evoke this yearning that we all have.
The message and the claim behind this collection comes out in (what seems to be) a perfect timing, as today Milan will resume a stricter lockdown due to COVID-19 cases noticeably increasing. But Giorgetti wanted to make clear that he is not encouraging bad behavior or uncivil attitudes.
The collection had a “nocturnal attitude” and the garments were presented in latex, vinyl, nylon and stretchy synthetic fabrics. In the words of Giorgetti, the pieces were made sustainably. Color was also a fundamental part of the collection, and the artist Alessandro Calabrese created abstract floral patterns that were printed in draped dresses.
Glossy surfaces deserve special mention, presented on vinyl puffers, slouchy trousers, and in black patent leather trench coats. All in all, the garments were tight, stretchy, comfortable, technological and work as second-skin. According to Massimo Giorgetti, that’s what MSGM costumers are looking for. And honestly, these are the best accessories to kill it on the dance-floor.
We have a few months from now to hope, pray, get the vaccine -and obviously, behave in a civilised manner-, so that we can go party again when this collection comes out, looking nothing but stunning.
