1929.
An internal conversation about identity, everyday life and origin.
Outside of the rigid and fast-paced calendars of the industry, Alejandro Seoane presents this photographic series titled “1929”, with which he aims to establish the codes and foundations of his personal project.
Inspired by personal reflections, Seoane tackles the concept of youth as an element that connects family history and builds personal identity. Starting from a personal motive, such as genealogical history, he approaches broader social issues like migration, as well as historical events such as the Spanish Civil War or the post-war era.
In this first collection, the theme of analog youth is decontextualized, drawing inspiration from the works of certain photographers, including Wolfgang Tillmans, Herbert List, and Felipe Romero. These, along with other influences on the creative, such as filmmaker Gus van Sant, explore everyday life and youth culture through a contemporary lens. Thus, the designer establishes an analogy, which he refers to as “a bridge between the past and the present”.
In this visual proposal, in sepia tones, blacks, and whites with a certain warmth, we can observe a photographic reminiscence reminiscent of domestic albums and family portraits.
In “1929”, the casting selection, styling (Raúl González), and makeup (Laura del Muro), all clean and natural, generate synergy with the crafted pieces and the resulting photographic series.
With this series, led by photographer Santiago Neyra, the collection delves into a search that not only ties into identity but also into its very development. Included are objects and material elements that nod to the collection’s narrative, such as family archive photographs, bindings, inherited jewelry, or images by Wolfgang Tillmans.
The inner garments and classic silhouettes are revisited through a broad range of materials, including cool wools, sequined surfaces, woolen fabrics, or shirting cottons that play with personal and nostalgic elements.
For the development of the collection, Seoane sought to highlight craftsmanship and foster collaboration by working with other independent professionals, such as Pablo Aneiros, an expert in knitwear, or Sara Parada, a craftswoman specializing in leather goods. The result is a collection intended to maintain its relevance over time and solidify the creative’s codes, as well as to celebrate the values of teamwork and collaboration among emerging artists.
Alejandro Seoane defines himself as a creative finding his path, focused on exploration and the creative process. After completing his university studies in Fashion Design and previously presenting projects in a similar vein, he directs his creative focus around the act of dressing. “Really, 1929 emerged quite organically; I suppose it’s an extension or conclusion of my student phase”, Alejandro notes.
The creative process and the alliance with other creatives will be fundamental aspects of his identity and professional career, which begins with “1929”. “In the end, I’m at a moment where I’m defining myself. The questions I used to ask are not the same as the ones I ask now, and neither are my goals”, the designer reflects.
